Some might say that that is a negative way to look at things. I think as an entrepreneur, adjusting to the coming trends is essential. I think the difference between positive or negative is that one would keep track of the marketing adjustments and learn from the mistakes that are inevitable.

Our current business landscape has created questions. In business, if people have questions that means that business is in jeopardy until we can get those answers. Not so fast…

If you can look for opportunities by answering these questions, you can be off on a new leg of business or create a completely new angle which might open a window that you might not have even known it was there in the first place.

I had a conversation with Mr. Pineapple, Kelly Davison, yesterday. I told him how much I admired his vision of business here on Maui. He had to deal with a store on Dairy Road as the traffic was diverted one block south as the county created an Airport Access Road. Talk about adjustments. His business suffered a great deal until he figured out how to continue his business online.

I believe with the Covid 19 factor in business today, one can really learn from what Kelly did. Adjust. It wasn’t smooth sailing from the get-go. Somedays 2 steps forward, somedays 1 step back but lessons were learned. Today he has a successful today with a flower lei business, a T-shirt business, a candy and coffee business, and so much more.

When we feel the heat due to less tourists in our stores or road blocks getting in our way, we need to think. How can we continue our work and make it meaningful? It might be taking on a new skill to further our vision. It might be something altogether brand new. Now is the time to make the changes to move forward, move laterally or move onto a newly paved road perfect for you to drive upon.
