The word friendship in the dictionary reads “The emotions or conduct of friends; the state of being friends.” That doesn’t even come close to the meaning!

First of all, a friend can be a person, an art, a pet or a celebrated idea. Friendship is practicing caring and nurturing a person, art, pet or idea over a period of time.

My favorite friend is Karen. She and I have known each other for 48 years. Having this friend, I was never alone. No matter what happened, a birth, a death, graduation, a stupid problem, she was there for me and I was there for her. You don’t even consider that one day it will end. Well, does it? Not really.

Just like all of the times we have connected over the phone, text, visits, or mental telepathy, we are still doing it. I’ll be listening to a song and who pops in my mind, Karen. I am watching the sunset and there she is again. No matter what type of friend you have it never ends because they will always be there. They leave a dent in your soul that no one else can fill the same way. You can grow other dents but that one… that one is special.

It’s a good dent because you can always go back to it and walk alongside it. You can skim over some lengths or revel in the goodness of a special section. If you need advice, look back through the space and remember the advice and apply it to a current situation. It really is all there.

My special friend passed away on February 1, 2022. When I hear the Beach Boys or the Eagles, or see something that is funny, she shows up again. It’s amazing how a friend can affect every part of your life. Even when they are gone. Friendship is Forever!
