A Super Simple Guide to Using AI (Even If You’ve Never Tried It!)
August 3, 2026We hear the phrase “Just show up.” Remove the “just”. Show up for work. Show up for your family. Show up for your friends. Show up for your community. Show up for yourself.
Showing up matters but simply being there isn't really the goal. The goal is to be present and engaged.
Remember the term “quiet quitting”? It described doing what is required and nothing more. You are there, you do your job, but you aren't necessarily engaged in what you're doing. I think there is a bigger lesson here.
We can be physically present in many areas of our lives while mentally checking out.
Showing Up at Work
At work, showing up isn't just about being on time and completing your list. It's bringing your ideas, experience, and willingness to participate.
It's listening, asking questions, and looking for solutions. Sometimes it's saying, “I can help with that,” even when something isn't technically your job.
That doesn't mean taking on everything. It means caring about the bigger picture and being willing to contribute. Your job title defines your role. Your participation can define your impact.
Showing Up at Home
Being home doesn't always mean being present. We can be sitting in the same room while our attention is somewhere else. Showing up at home can be as simple as putting the phone down, listening to a story, helping with something that needs to be done or making time for a conversation. The little moments often matter more than we realize.
Showing Up in Your Community
Communities need people who participate, not just people who attend. You don't have to lead everything or have all the answers. Maybe you have an idea, a skill, a connection, or simply an hour to give. Instead of saying, “Someone should do something,” sometimes the better question is, “What can I contribute?” That's how communities move forward.
And Then There Is You
Showing up for yourself means staying involved in your own life. Keep learning. Try something new. Follow through on the things that matter to you. Be willing to adjust when something isn't working. You have experience, ideas, and perspective that nobody else brings in quite the same way. But they only make a difference when you bring them forward.
I like the idea of bringing something to the table.
- Bring your experience.
- Bring your curiosity.
- Bring your ideas.
- Bring your willingness to listen and learn.
And when something needs to be done, don't always wait for someone else to do it.
Sometimes it's okay to simply say, “How can I help?”
Showing up isn't about doing everything or going above and beyond every minute of every day. It's about being present enough to engage and willing enough to contribute.
So show up. Not just physically. Show up ready to be part of what happens next.
